Six professional Washington, D.C. area theatre companies will write, direct, rehearse and perform original plays based on similar themes in only 24 hours for the 14th annual PLAY IN A DAY, a one-of-a-kind event at Imagination Stage's Lerner Theater, Feb 17 at 8pm. Participating theatre companies include Adventure Theatre MTC (Glen Echo, MD); Flying V (Bethesda, MD); Imagination Stage (Bethesda, MD); Keegan Theatre (Washington, DC); Olney Theatre Center (Olney, MD) and Rorschach Theatre (Washington, DC). Mosaic Theater Company's production of Caleen Sinnette Jennings' Queens Girl in Africa is closed, but there's an opportunity this week to catch a special one-hour presentation of the play at the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) featuring the talented Bianca Lipford. Washington Stage Guild holds a post-show discussion with playwright Arlene Hutton, the author of LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC and SEE ROCK CITY (now on stage) after the Sunday, February 11 matinee. If you've seen the show, come anyway, the talk will start about 4:30. Show closes February 11.

Theater J offers a Pay-What-You-Can performance of Everything is Illuminated on Thurs, January 11 (7:30pm), plus some discounted previews on January 12 & 13 (8pm) and 14 (7:30pm). Based on the best-selling novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, this stage adaptation tells the story of a young man--also named Jonathan Safran Foer--who travels to Ukraine to find the woman who might or might not have saved his grandfather's life. Be the first to see Theresa Rebeck's The Way of the World at Folger Theatre which begins January 9 with a Pay-What-You-Will Performance.
